Overview
Rundlepark is a five-storey Nordic spa apartment complex in Canmore with a high level of structural complexity and specification.
Range delivered a full turnkey framing package and was later brought into the design-assist team to help resolve the upper levels, modeling and coordinating the structure to ensure accurate fitment across all systems.
Range Scope
Range provided a turnkey framing package including:
-
Framing labour
-
Prefabricated wall systems
-
All framing materials
-
Roof and floor systems
-
Simpson hardware package
-
Prefabricated stairs
-
Wood frame engineering
-
BIM modeling and design
-
Hoisting operations (including a self-erecting tower crane)
What Made This Project Unique
The project included complex structural conditions such as vaulted ceilings and open-to-below areas, with extensive coordination required between wood, steel, and timber systems.
Range’s involvement in design allowed the team to model Levels 4 and 5 and provide dimensions used by steel and timber suppliers to ensure proper alignment.
Challenges
-
Limited access and multiple hoisting methods required
-
Working in Canmore with constraints on crew size and duration
-
High level of structural complexity
-
Coordination between wood, steel, and timber systems
-
Strict safety expectations from Bird Construction
How Range Delivered
Range worked closely with the architect and structural engineer during pre-design and problem-solving phases. Once the design was finalized, steel and timber suppliers used Range’s dimensions for fabrication.
The team used a Hilti Total Station to lay out each level and maintain consistency throughout the build. Truss design could also be adjusted based on site conditions due to direct access to design information.
Multiple hoisting methods were planned and deployed throughout the project, including rotating telehandlers, a self-erecting T85 tower crane, and additional lifts as needed.
Prefabrication was used to prepare and deliver materials such as blocking, joist components, outlooks, and safety railing systems.
Safety coordination was managed in collaboration with Bow Valley Safety, ensuring proper planning before each phase of work.
